Nutrition for good hair

Your hair from the inside

Hair health is not just shampoo and conditioners.

Hair health can be helped with good shampoo and conditioner. However I am here to say we can do more.
We have our hair growing out of our scalps, connected to our brains, our blood our bodies. Often what is happening on our heads is needed in our bodies also. What I will say before I start is if you find you are depleted and you think you are in over your head, get your bloods done. As a doctor to do a blood test and to test your B12 levels, and all those vitamin levels. You could also go to a hair follicle tester to see if you are allergic to anything in hair care products if you are having ongoing issues. Safety is first always. Health is first always.

Here are some suggestions:

Omegas: This often is overlooked, we think surface too often. We can get them in our foods. Fish mainly Salmons and high fat fish give the best omega values. Flaxseed is a vegan way to get this. Hemp seed is also a good way to get this. If you are really depleted you can find some really good quality oils on the market like fish oil, flax seed oil and hemp seed oil these are helpful if your skin and scalp are dry. Best way to get oils is through your food but if you do not like fish you can take the oil option.

Greens: Yes I said it, salads, green leafy vegetables are great for hair. High protein vegetables are great for hair. Do you like spinach or silver beet or brocoli, cabbage, lettuce, bok choy there areĀ  many on the list.

Water: Drinking water and making sure you are hydrated well is going to assist. We often think we do not need as much or do not want to drink a lot water is what our bodies and our hair needs hydration from the inside. May I say, try and get filtered water or pure water it gives your body less to deal with.

Zinc and iron: Good for hair. Eggs have Zinc they also have many other goodies.

Eggs: The humble egg has a lot going for it. Natural sources of biotin, zinc, protein, selenium which we are often deficient of in New Zealand.

Protein: We can do this in many ways. Lean meat, beans, legumes, Pea protein, protein in vegetables.

My only point here is, we help ourselves inside also with our hair. If we eat badly it will show in our hair also. If you eat a lot of processed foods it will show in your hair. It is not to say having a bit now and again for a treat is shocking. Its more a balance. Maybe instead of drinking water one day we have a lemon water or lime water as we get sick of just water. Maybe we do not like eggs so we make something with egg in it so we do not taste the egg. Perhaps you do not like greens but you love smoothies so you puree it up in your smoothie so you do not taste it. We all find a way to make it work for us. It is more giving you my reader a holistic view of hair. We often think one thing will fix us, sometimes we just need a different perspective. There is no wrong or right you know what is right for you. My hope for you is you choose natural.
