I Was Looking for Answers
Like many people, I was looking for answers.
Another shampoo promised relief for my sensitive scalp. The first wash seemed okay, but by the third, my scalp was raw again. The itching returned. The blisters came back. The discomfort was overwhelming, and I found myself relying on creams and antihistamines just to get through the day. One day, I turned the bottle over and looked at the ingredient list. I realised I was using ingredients I couldn’t even pronounce, yet I was trusting them with one of the most delicate parts of my body.
That moment changed everything.
I decided I needed to understand what I was putting on my scalp instead of simply believing what the label promised.
Becoming a Learner
When I became a learner for life, my whole world changed.
Looking back, I realise I have always been curious, but this journey gave that curiosity a purpose.
I immersed myself in books, courses, research papers and formulation. My evenings and weekends became opportunities to learn. I wasn’t searching for another product to buy—I was searching for understanding.
The more I learned, the more I realised that thoughtful formulation is about far more than following a recipe.
It requires observation.
It requires patience.
It requires asking better questions.
I didn’t begin this journey because I wanted to build a business.
I began because I wanted to solve my own problem.
Ironically, that decision would eventually change my life.
One of the first formulations that gave me confidence was a simple conditioner. When family members and close friends told me it made a meaningful difference to how their scalps felt, I realised this journey might help more than just me. Their encouragement gave me the determination to keep learning, refining and creating.”
Eco Lou Was Born
Eco Lou wasn’t born from a business plan.
It was born from experimentation, persistence and a belief that people deserve better.
Better information.
Better understanding.
Better formulated products.
As I created products for myself, something unexpected happened.
Family and friends began using them too.
When they shared their own positive experiences, it encouraged me to keep learning, refining and improving.
That is still how I work today.
I don’t create products because they’re fashionable.
I create them because I believe every ingredient should earn its place.
Not every ingredient is right for every person.
What’s wonderful for one individual may not be suitable for another.
That’s why thoughtful formulation matters.
My Philosophy
Over the years, my thinking became much simpler.
Everything I create today is guided by a few principles.
- Every ingredient has a purpose.
- Every oil has a role.
- Every person is unique.
- Simplicity creates clarity.
- Confidence grows through understanding.
I love natural ingredients, but I’m also a realist.
Nature has given us incredible ingredients, yet I also recognise that thoughtful formulation, quality standards and good science all have their place.
My goal has never been to create fear or confusion.
My goal is to help people understand their own scalp so they can make confident choices.
Looking Forward
Today, Eco Lou is growing beyond products.
Through education, thoughtful resources, The Calm Scalp Method and The Calm Scalp Companion, my hope is to help more people understand their scalp and make confident choices.
Research remains one of my greatest passions.
I believe good products begin with good questions.
Every new insight helps me create better formulations, better education and better guidance for the people who place their trust in me.
This is not about creating more products.
It’s about creating more understanding.
A Personal Note
If you’ve found your way here because you’re searching for answers, I want you to know you’re welcome.
You don’t need to know everything.
You don’t need a complicated routine.
You simply need a willingness to observe, to learn and to discover what works for you.
My hope is that every visit to Eco Lou leaves you feeling calmer, more informed and more confident than when you arrived.
Thank you for being here.
With calm and confidence,
Lisa
